Important Spray Tan information
Fiji’s warm, humid climate can influence how your spray tan develops, so it’s essential to follow our simple guidelines to achieve the best possible result. The more closely you stick to our pre- and post-tan instructions, the more flawless and long-lasting your glow will be.
Please note: All spray tans at Totoka are double-coat applications. This doesn’t make your tan darker — it simply ensures even, consistent coverage for a beautiful finish.

Proper preparation is the key to a smooth, even, long-lasting tan. The better your skin is prepped, the better your results will be.
• Exfoliate Thoroughly (Most Important Step!)
Start by removing dead skin cells to create a smooth, fresh base. Proper exfoliation helps the tanning solution absorb evenly, prevents patchiness, and extends the life of your tan. Pay particular attention to elbows, wrists and ankles.• Complete Hair Removal and Exfoliation at Least 6 Hours Before
Shave or wax no later than 6 hours before your appointment to give your skin time to settle. This reduces irritation and helps avoid dark spots or uneven colour.• Avoid All Skincare Products on the Day of Your Tan
Keep your skin completely free of moisturiser, deodorant, sunscreen, oils, and perfume. These products can block the tanning solution and cause streaking or uneven development.• Take a Cool, Product-Free Shower 30–60 Minutes Before
If possible, rinse your skin with a cool shower using only soap to remove any remaining residue. This ensures your skin is clean and ready for a flawless application.• Stay Cool Before Your Appointment
Try to avoid sweating in the lead-up to your tan. Heat and perspiration can interfere with how the solution settles on your skin, affecting the final finish. -
Please spend a few minutes ready our ‘Spray tan options’ card which highlights the shades of tan available to you. Chat with our team and determine which shade will be most suitable.
You’ll then be guided to the tan room where we provide disposable G-strings and hair nets for your convenience. You’re also welcome to wear your own underwear (black is recommended) and choose to go topless or fully nude if you prefer a more uniform tan.

Once your spray tan is applied, it needs time to develop undisturbed for the best possible result. Follow these steps carefully to protect your fresh tan during this crucial phase:
• Allow Extra Drying Time
Give your tan a few additional minutes to dry fully before getting dressed. Opt for a loose robe or relaxed clothing, and stay in air-conditioning whenever possible.• Stay Cool and Dry
Keep your body temperature down and avoid sweating. Heat or moisture can interfere with how your tan develops.• Avoid Touching Your Skin
Try not to rub, pat, or apply pressure to your skin. Even small touches can create streaks or uneven patches.• Wear Loose Clothing Only
Choose soft, loose-fitting garments that won’t rub. If you tanned topless, it’s best to leave your bra off until after your first rinse.• Avoid Any Activities That Cause Sweating
No exercising, sunbathing, or strenuous movement before your first rinse. Even mild perspiration can affect the tan.• Skip Deodorants, Perfume, and Products
Do not apply deodorant, perfume, lotions, or oils during the development period, as they can disrupt the tan and cause patchiness.• Keep Skin Completely Dry
Avoid all water contact — rain, splashes, washing hands, or accidentally wetting your arms/legs. Staying dry is essential for an even result.Your therapist will advise you exactly when to rinse; following their timing will give you the best outcome.

The bronzer in your spray tan provides an immediate colour while the DHA in the solution develops your actual tan over time. Keep in mind that the bronzer will wash away during your initial rinse, so it's normal to see colour running down the drain—this is just the bronzer, not your tan fading.
When you shower, simply rinse off the cosmetic bronzer from the surface of your skin. Feel free to use your hands to gently rub the bronzer off but be sure to do so delicately to avoid disturbing the developing tan underneath.
It's important to note that the true results of your tan may not be immediately visible after rinsing. The final color can take up to 12+ hours to fully develop, so be patient as your tan continues to develop over time.

To keep your tan looking fresh, even, and glowing for as long as possible, follow these simple aftercare tips:
• Avoid Swimming in Chlorine and Salt Water Before Your Event
Both chlorine and salt water break down spray tan more quickly. Try to avoid the pool and ocean between your tan and your event to maintain rich, even colour.• Gently Pat Dry After Showering
Always pat — never rub — your skin with a towel. Rubbing removes surface skin cells, which can lighten or patch your tan.• Apply Sunscreen Generously
Sunscreen not only protects your skin but also adds a barrier against chlorine and salt water. If you’ll be swimming or spending time outdoors in Fiji, apply a generous layer of sunscreen to help minimise fading.• Limit Shaving
Shaving exfoliates the skin and gradually removes your tan. Try to complete all hair removal before your tanning appointment and minimise shaving afterwards to extend your tan’s lifespan.• Moisturise Consistently
Hydration is essential for a long-lasting, even tan. Apply moisturiser morning and night to keep your skin soft, smooth, and glowing throughout your stay.
