How prep & what to bring before travelling to Fiji

When you're getting married in paradise, it’s not just your dress that needs a little planning ahead – your hair and skin do too. With warm temperatures, humidity, and the excitement of travel, your regular routine might need a tropical-friendly update.

Here’s how to prepare your hair and skin in the lead-up to your Fiji wedding, straight from the stylists at Totoka Hair & Beauty.

1. Start Early – Especially With Hair

Thinking of changing your colour, getting extensions, or trying a new treatment? Start 2–3 months ahead to give your hair time to settle and adjust.

For frizz-prone or textured hair, consider a Keratin Smoothing Treatment a few weeks before travel – it’ll reduce styling time and help your hair cope beautifully in the island climate.

2. Hydrate From the Inside Out

Tropical beauty starts with tropical hydration. Drink more water than usual in the weeks before your trip, especially if you’re flying in from cooler weather.

Pair that with deep-conditioning hair masks and moisturising skincare to give your body the best base for wedding-day glow.

3. Exfoliate (Gently!) and Protect

A gentle exfoliation once a week in the lead-up to the big day helps your skin stay clear and makeup-ready. But the biggest beauty essential? SPF. Always.
Fiji’s sun is no joke – protect your face, lips, and neck with a lightweight sunscreen daily (even if it’s cloudy!).

4. Be prepared before you fly out

What to Bring to Fiji:

Lip Colour: Pack a lip colour in a shade you’re comfortable wearing. Choose something like what you’d select with your makeup artist or one you’re happy for us to use from the outset.

Hair Accessories: If you and your bridesmaids are planning updos (ponytails, buns, half-up styles, etc.), please bring along hair donuts, as these are not readily available in Fiji. They’re essential for creating long-lasting, secure styles, especially for buns or updos, and greatly enhance the final look.

Hair Extensions: Many popular hairstyles online feature added hair extensions for extra volume and fullness. If you'd like this effect, please bring your own clip-in extensions that match your hair colour and length. Our stylist will fit them for you on the day to complete the desired style. If you are having hair extensions, a trial is mandatory

5. Book a Pre-Wedding Trial
